GutBuster 002::Colliery Dam Recap
GutBuster LogoBlue skies and warm weather again greeted almost 200 runners who took part in Race #2 of the Frontrunners GutBuster Trail Running Series.  Runners had the choice of either a Half-Marathon long course event or a 11km short course event at Colliery Dam in Nanaimo which was a new venue for the GutBuster Series.

GutBuster 002::Colliery Dam (May 31st, 2009)

The GutBuster Series took to the trails of Colliery Dam in Nanaimo this past weekend.  This was the first year for the Colliery Dam GutBuster as it replaced the old Westwood Lake GutBuster.  The ROC Nanaimo group headed up by Charles Burrell and Dan Brady did a fantastic job of building this new course over the past few weeks and it received rave reviews from all participants!  The course featured miles of rolling, technical single track which was only broken up by a crossing of the Chase River, the huge MUD PIT (with inflatable alligators!), another river crossing at the base of a waterfall and then the Tunnel of Love.

The Half-Marathon Long Course had 77 finishers and the 11km Short Course had 109 finishers.  The Short Course was won by Shelby Drope of the Westwood Running Club and Kimberley Miller on the womens side.

The Long Course event was won by Josh Henderson on the mens side and Care Wakely on the womens side both of the Frontrunners Westshore running club.  This was a first win in the GutBuster Series for both Josh and Care as Josh`s previous best finish was 5th and Care`s was 3rd.

The next event in the Frontrunners GutBuster Trail Running Series is held on July 12th at Royal Roads University.  For more information check out www.gutbustertrailrun.com
