Bear Mountain Resort 10k Recap

Bear Mountain Resort 10k LogoThe 3rd annul Bear Mountain Resort 10k took place this past weekend at the beautiful Bear Mountain Resort in Langford, B.C.  The event had a record field of 305 finishers, up 54 from last year, and participants were greeted with the nicest weather the race has had yet.

The event which is billed as "Canada's Most Challenging 10k" offers hotel room rates, course tours, pool and hot tub access, race photography and filmography, and a post race afterparty which this year featured Victoria band, Jon and Roy.

Bear Mountain Resort 10k (November 15th, 2008)

The 3rd edition of the Bear Mountain Resort 10k was won by Vancouver's Ryan Day in a time of 34:38.  Ryan also recently won the Royal Victoria Half-Marathon and is one of Canada's top up and coming marathoners.  Ryan was followed closely by Rob Mandje from Boulder, Colorado who finished in a time of 34:52.  Rounding out the top 3 was Jason Terauchi-Loutitt in a time of 35:02.  On the womens side, youngster Samantha Dubinsky took the overall title in a time of 46:44.  Not a bad run considering Samantha is still in the 16-19 age category!  Second overall and top master in the womens race was Kathleen Brewin from the Frontrunners Westshore running club.  Kathleen amazingly ran a personal best on this challenging course with a time of 47:05.  3rd overall for the women was Colleen Butler of the PIH running club.  Colleen finished in a time of 48:42 and was our 2nd masters finisher.

After the race the Mountainside Athletic Club opened its doors for the race participants to enjoy the hot tub and heated outdoor saltwater pool.  Just after lunch the after party kicked off at Jack's Place Pub with Victoria band, Jon and Roy playing 3 sets from 1:00pm-4:00pm.  If you haven't heard of these guys yet check out their website at www.jonandroy.ca

Congrats to everyone that took on the challenge of the Bear Mountain Resort 10k.  Also congrats to the 25 members of our Frontrunners Westshore run club that ran this years event.
