Help Clear Kelly Guest's Name

Kelly Guest at 2008 GutBuster 001In 2002, while ranked number two in Canada for triathlon, Kelly Guest was sent home from the Commonwealth Games due to a positive drug test for a steroid called Nandralone. Although Kelly was later found to be innocent of any attempt to cheat and innocent of any intentional use of the steroid, there was still no explanation as to how the positive test result occurred and, subsequently, he was banned from all competitive sport for two years.

Recently, the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) wrote to Kelly and admitted that the 2002 drug result may have been a false positive caused by a newly discovered phenomenon called "active urine".

Unfortunately, there is now no way to go back and re-test his urine sample so now no one now knows whether Kelly was an innocent victim of a false positive result. Even though the CCES admits the uncertainty around Kelly’s test result, they refuse to expunge Kelly’s record.

It’s like saying someone is guilty until proven innocent.

We believe Kelly deserves better treatment than that. We are pleased that the media has begun covering the story of this unfair outcome but we are also starting a letter writing campaign to apply additional public pressure to the CCES, encouraging them to do the right thing and clear Kelly’s name.

Please send this form letter to the CCES. Just click on the link set out below. You simply need to add your name and email address and then click send.

We hope that the CCES will understand that many people feel it is time for Kelly to receive fair and just treatment.
