Gutbuster 004: Westwood Lake (Results and Photos)
Gutbuster LogoThe fourth and final race in the 2007 Frontrunners Gutbuster Trail Running Series took place this past weekend at Westwood Lake in Nanaimo. Just over 250 runners took part in either the 8km short course or the half-marathon long course race.

Gutbuster 004: Westwood Lake (July 15th, 2007)

The fourth and final Gutbuster took place this past weekend under warm overcast conditions. The race offered up the choice of either an 8km short course race or a half-marathon long course race. In the short course race, Sean Chester of Victoria was the overall mens winner (41:59) and Angela Plamondon was the overall female winner (54:32). Sean is heading off to Canmore, AB in the next week to compete in the NACAC Mountain Running Championships as part of Team Canada. You can view the full team and course information at Canmore Challenge. In the half-marathon, Frontrunners Nanaimo's, Stefan Jakobsen, won (1:44:17) on his home turf over Frontrunners Westshore's, Nick Walker, who finished 2nd overall (1:44:39). The overall female winner was Nicole Barrett of Campbell River in a time of 2:05:35.

The course offered a challenging mix of technical descents and narrow winding trails as well as long stretches of rolling gravel roads to add some faster paced running into the mix.
